19-year-old stabbed in ‘targeted attack’ in Essex park

A young man has been taken to hospital with ‘serious’ injuries following a stabbing in Chelmsford. Police have been authorised to use additional stop-and-search powers in the area.

The victim was a 19-year-old man and officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information.

The incident happened yesterday (Tuesday 2 June) afternoon at about 4.50pm in Chelmer Park, Galleywood.

Emergency services arrived at the scene to find a man lying on the ground. He was taken to hospital where his condition is being described as serious.

Three teenagers were seen leaving the area – they have been described as white and wearing black clothing. One was wearing a white mask and blue gloves.

A 19-year-old man from Chelmsford has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, he remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector, Jamie Mills said: “We believe this was a targeted attack. Officers will be carrying out extra patrols with enhanced stop-and-search powers to identify and apprehend anyone carrying weapons or intent in causing harm.”

“They are also there to prevent any further disturbance and protect the community. I’d like to thank the local community in advance for their co-operation. We continue our ongoing work to identify anyone who is intent on committing violent crime and particularly knife crime with Op Sceptre.”
