Total coronavirus cases pass 700 in Essex

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Essex has now passed 700.

The number stands at 756, an increase of 50 compared to the previous day.

This consists of 597 cases in the Essex County Council area, 83 cases in the Thurrock Council area and 76 cases in Southend.

Another eight patients with the virus died at Harlow’s Princess Alexandra Hospital on Friday. They were aged between 51 and 85.

This takes the total number of deaths at the Essex Hospital to 42.

People across the UK have been warned to stay at home this weekend despite the warm weather.

The latest figures show 4,313 people with the virus have now died in the UK – up by 708 on Friday’s figure.

A five-year-old child with underlying health conditions is among those who died over the past day, Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove has announced.

The Minister also paid tribute to Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab, 13, who passed away in the early hours of Monday at King’s College Hospital after contracting coronavirus.

His mother and siblings had to miss his funeral because they were self-isolating.

Seven healthcare workers and five London bus workers are also among the victims.
