The areas in Essex with the highest new cases of Coronavirus

The latest data from Public Health England shows an increase in coronavirus cases across Essex.

The figures identify a number of boroughs in the county which have seen a worrying rise in positive cases of the virus.

According to the data, there are 248 places across England with rates of more than 10 new cases per 100,000. Eight of these are in Essex.

Castle Point has the highest rate of new infections per 100,000 people in Essex, followed by Brentwood.

Castle Point recorded 23.2 cases per 100,000 people followed by Brentwood which recorded 18.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Southend-on-Sea recorded 13.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Basildon came fourth in the table, recording 12.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Chelmsford recorded 11.8 cases, followed by Rochford with 11.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Epping Forest saw a reduction in the virus rate, which fell from 18.2 to 10.6 per 100,000 people.

Harlow recorded 10.3 cases per 100,000 people.
