Four schools in Essex report coronavirus cases

Four schools in Essex have reported confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus amongst staff and pupils.

Three of the schools remain open, however some pupils have been asked to stay at home as a precaution.

Sweyne Park School in Rayleigh has confirmed a member of staff has tested positive for coronavirus. The school is remaining open, but pupils and colleagues in the bubble affected have been sent home to isolate for 14 days.

Great Baddow High School in Chelmsford has confirmed a pupil in Year 13 has tested positive for coronavirus. The school said it was working closely with Public Heath England on the appropriate next steps and all members of its school community had been informed.

Castle View School in Canvey has asked some of its staff members to self-isolate after they came into contact with a positive Covid-19 case.

The school remains open and has told parents: “We would like to reassure you that because of the measures taken in school in advance of our return and using both the risk assessment and following government guidance, we have minimised any risk to students and our wider staff body.”

The Freshwaters Primary Academy in Harlow closed on Tuesday after a number of students displayed coronavirus symptoms. The school has announced it will stay shut until they receive confirmation from the testing.
