Heatwave to hit Essex with hottest day of the year predicted

Britain looks set to enjoy some scorching weather with the hottest day of the year predicted next week.

Temperatures will climb from Sunday onwards topping to a possible 28°C on Friday in Essex, as winds blow in warm weather from southern Europe.

And after a turbulent past week that saw severe thunderstorms in the county, the new bout of sunshine will come as a welcome tonic.

To qualify as a heatwave, temperatures matching or exceeding 25 – 28C (77-82.4F) have to be recorded over three consecutive days, which the current forecast for Essex does.

Some thundery downpours may break out later in the week, and while not good news for sun worshippers it will at least provide a little relief for gardeners.

The forecast for the region next week is as follows:

Monday:

Dry, with plenty of prolonged and warm sunshine. Some cloud is likely to build through the day, however it will remain fine with sunny spells possible throughout. Maximum temperature 23°C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

A fine, dry and increasingly warm period, with plenty of prolonged sunshine. Turning hot for most of Wednesday, with perhaps the odd thunderstorm possible on Thursday. Maximum temperature of 28°C.
