Young man dies after car crashes into lorry in Essex

A man has died following a collision with a lorry, which was parked in a lay-by near Laindon yesterday night.

The collision happened close to the A127 at around 6pm and involved a red Mini Morris which collided into the parked lorry.

The dual carriageway was closed for a number of hours whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

The driver of the Mini, a 24-year-old man from Southend-on-Sea, was taken to hospital. This morning, Police confirmed the man had died of his injuries.

In a statement Essex Police said: “We were called shortly after 6pm yesterday to reports of a collision involving a red Mini Morris and a parked lorry in a layby near the Fortune of War roundabout.”

“The Mini driver, a 24-year-old man from the Southend-on-Sea area, was taken to hospital but sadly died this morning.”

“The London-bound A127 was closed until about 12.30am this morning while we carried out forensic examination work.”

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone who may have seen the Mini travelling along the A127 prior to the incident to contact them.
