Woman arrested after man dies in crash in Essex

A woman driver has been arrested after a man was killed in a fatal collision in Clacton.

The incident happened just before midday yesterday (Saturday 11 April) on St John’s Road, near the Jaywick Lane junction. The collision involved a BMW and a Citroen.

Emergency services attended the scene, however the driver of the Citroen, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed off the road for several hours while an investigation of the crash scene was carried out.

The driver of the BMW, a 31-year-old woman from Clacton, was taken to hospital along with two children who were also in the car.

The woman was then subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and possession of cannabis. She remains in police custody.
