Murder investigation launched after man hit by van in Essex

A murder investigation has been launched after a fatal collision in Little Clacton.

Police were called to the scene at 11pm last night (Friday 7 February) after reports that a man had been in collision with a van on The Street.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man who was in his 40s, sadly died at the scene. 

Essex Police have said that they are treating his death as murder.

It was reported there had been a fight in the area, near to The Blacksmiths pub, prior to the collision taking place.

The van involved in the collision was a grey or silver Ford Transit with writing on the side. It may also have collided with a car at the scene. The van then drove off in the direction of Morrisons and Tesco.

A short time later, a 41 year-old man from Clacton was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and is currently in custody. The van has also been recovered.

Part of The Street has been cordoned off while officers investigate the scene and it’s expected that this will remain closed into the afternoon

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or have CCTV footage or any other information about the incident, to come forward.
