Man shot dead by Police after several stabbed in terror incident in London

A man has been shot dead by police in a “terror related incident” on a busy high street in London.

Three people have been stabbed in broad daylight on Streatham High Road, with one taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The Met Police said that a second victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene and taken to hospital, while a third has been taken to hospital and is in a non-life-threatening condition.

Witnesses describe a man with a “machete” and “silver canisters” on his chest being chased by armed officers before being shot.

Police confirmed the attacker died in the incident at around 2pm.

Long stretches of Streatham High Road have been cordoned off, with helicopters seen above the area, and Transport for London have diverted a number of buses away from the scene.

Sunday’s incident was the third terror attack to hit the UK since security services lowered the national threat from severe to substantial in November, meaning attacks were deemed “likely” rather than “highly likely”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: “Thank you to all emergency services responding to the incident in Streatham, which the police have now declared as terrorism-related. My thoughts are with the injured and all those affected.”
