The weather warning covers the whole country, with winds of up to 70mph hitting some areas.

The Met Office has warned there may be disruption to public transport and residents in the worst affected areas could experience short term loss of power.

Commuters have been advised to check their journeys before they travel and to allow extra time for their journeys.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Very strong winds may bring disruption to parts of the UK later this weekend.”

“Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport expected. There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.”

“Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities could be affected by spray and/or large waves.”

“There is also a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.”
