Police close Dartford Bridge after concerns for the welfare of a man

The Dartford Bridge was closed to traffic yesterday evening, after concerns for the welfare of a man.

Essex Police received a number of reports at around 6.15pm yesterday (Friday 24 April) expressing concern for the man. 

Officers spoke to the man all through the evening and into the early hours of this morning, trying to “bring him back to safety”. 

The incident was resolved at 1:45am this morning, with the man handing himself into Police. He has been detained and is receiving specialist care.

The bridge remained closed while officers dealt with the incident, with motorists advised to use alternative routes.

The bridge has now reopened.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “The incident on Dartford Bridge was resolved at around 1.45am today with the man detained and taken to hospital to receive specialist care.”

“Our officers continued to engage with the man after receiving a call at around 6.15pm yesterday – helping to bring him to safety.”

“Thank you once again for your support and your patience.”
