Police search for man after abandoned car found on Dartford Bridge

A man is still missing after a car was abandoned at the Dartford Crossing this morning (February 18).

Police were called to the scene at around 9.30am. A search was conducted, but the man has not been found.

The crossing was completely closed due to concerns for the welfare of the man.

The road has now been reopened and the car has been seized by Police.

Drivers were temporarily held at the bridge heading from Essex into Kent for around 35 minutes between 9.40am and 10.15am before it reopened.

Congestion was tailing back for more than seven miles past junction 30.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We were called at around 9.30am today, Tuesday 18 February, concerning the welfare of a man on the Dartford Bridge.

“We attended the scene but we were unable to locate the man. 

“We continue to search the area.”

“A car found abandoned on the bridge has been seized and removed while our enquiries continue.”
