Long delays outside tips after waste sites reopen in Essex

Waste and recycling centres across Essex have reopened today for the first time since March.

Essex County Council has reopened 15 recycling centres across the county for the public to take waste materials they cannot store safely at home.

However, the council is urging people to only make trips that are absolutely necessary. The safest way to get rid of your waste and recycling is using kerbside collection.

Social distancing will be in place to ensure staff and visitors are keeping a safe distance apart. This includes limiting the number of cars at any one time, and long delays have been seen at some sites this morning.

If you can hold onto waste, the council has urged people to do so until the sites are fully operational.

Which recycling centres are opening?

The council is only opening the following 15 sites: Braintree, Chelmsford, Clacton, Colchester (Shrub End), Maldon, Witham, Brentwood, Canvey, Chigwell, Harlow, Mountnessing, Pitsea, Rayleigh, Saffron Walden and South Woodham Ferrers.

The council has also reminded residents not to visit a recycling centre if you are shielding, self isolating or showing any symptoms of coronavirus.
