Weather warning issued as thunderstorms set to hit Essex

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Essex, with thunderstorms set to hit the county.

The warning is in place from midday tomorrow (Friday 26 June) to 6am on Saturday 27 June.

The storms will bring an abrupt end to the soaring weather we have seen for most of this week, adding to the heavy downpours seen in recent weeks.

The weather warning applies to all areas of Essex as well as surrounding areas.

The forecast warns the thunderstorms may involve lightning strikes, hail or strong winds which could lead to travel disruption and difficult driving conditions.

Spray and sudden flooding could also lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

Some communities may become cut off by flooded roads and there is a chance of power cuts.
