Woman in serious condition after hit and run in Basildon

A woman in her 40s is in a critical condition after she was hit by a motorcyclist who failed to stop at the scene in Basildon.

Essex Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward with information.

The woman was hit by the motorcycle on St. Nicholas Road at the junction with Leinster Road, as she crossed the road. The incident happened on Sunday 9 August at around 5.30pm.

Emergency services along with the Air Ambulance responded to the incident, and the woman was air lifted to hospital.

Police have described her injuries as serious and potentially life changing.

Officers said the motorcyclist failed to stop at the scene of the collision. However a short time later, a 26-year-old man from the Basildon area was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident. 

He remains in police custody.

Officers continue to appeal for any witnesses to the incident or if anyone has dashcam footage to get in touch.
